(More customer reviews)My 3 year old son has had this a year, and plays with it regularly, as does his 15 month old brother. I wanted a structure that had some "form" (i.e. it's a "house" shape, with windows and a door, and lots of open areas ), but not so restrictive in design, that it would stifle creative play. This met our needs in that way perfectly. It's suitable for both boys and girls, probably from 14 months- 5 or so years...or really as long as they are interested in "role play" with figures. The red roof has chipped in several places (hardly durable), though my guys prefer to have an open roof so they can easily reach inside of the toy. The construction of the house part is impressive. That said, in the spectrum of kids, mine aren't really aggressive or excessively rough with their toys, comparing them to a few peers from my teaching days, or time spent volunteering in the church nursery. I just mention that to say it probably hasn't been "pushed to the limits" in our playroom setting.
This has doubled as a farm house and barn. My boys have enjoyed getting to open the elastic band-hinged door. Without the roof, they fill it with toys and carry around the house (the wooden beam that holds up the roof is like a handle without the 2 red sides). Currently ours is housing a Schleich elephant, Little People calf, Plan Toys cow, and Breyer horse (feeding on a Cheerio), to give you an idea on size. My kids don't really play with the table or chair. I recommend this toy if you want to get away from plastic and batteries. I would probably give it 5 stars if the roof had been more durable, and would buy again.
